Collective Pain of Loss

Originally Published on January 18, 2014

I’ve republished this in memory for a wonderful women this Dominican Republic’s Mother’s Day.  The sadness that is in hearts after losing a loved one is catastrophic.  But, when it is your mother, and you are close, that feeling is compounded the first Mother’s Day without her.  I cannot begin to imagine that pain, re-living the loss, and wondering … does it, does it really get easier with time.

Dios bendiga todos!

I don’t feel the heat,
nor do I hunger or thirst.
I feel nothing but pain.

My pain,
the pain of others,
a hive pain.

It’s the collective pain of loss.

Heaven called home one of it’s servants.

Full of love and compassion,
unrelated to me.
Yet I was loved.

I ache with intense fury for the many broken hearts,
for their tears
and their anguish.

Bless this family,
Ease their grief,
As heaven welcomes a new spirit.

Amen.

RIP, I love you … siempre.

Listen to the palms…
